Recent studies suggest that nearly 1 million adults in the US are living with multiple sclerosis (MS), a chronic disease of the central nervous system which can result in a significant impact on quality of life. Since the first disease-modifying therapy approval in 1993 (interferon beta-1b), the nature of MS care has changed substantially. Within the last five years alone, eight new DMTs have been approved and new treatment options are expected to continue to emerge with multiple DMTs in the pipeline. Given this rapidly evolving nature of MS care, this session will provide an overview of how newer treatment options fit into the current MS treatment landscape as well as discuss new and emerging evidence related to MS therapy that pharmacists can utilize to help patients optimally manage their treatment. | ||

Is your pharmacy data properly protected? We’re not focused solely on HIPAA. In this discussion will look much deeper into ensuring security from a technology standpoint and provide real-life lessons from the most recent data breaches. We will also provide an overview of what a pharmacy needs to do to ensure compliance with its legal and contractual obligations and the aftermath of a data breach. The goal is to assist pharmacies make sure they are taking the proper steps to minimize the possibility of a data breach and what to do when that breach does happen. Looking at data security is paramount in today’s pharmacies, knowing what questions to ask and issues to consider when instituting technology solutions is essential. | ||

As we are grasping the fact that specialty drug cost continues to rise, the need to have key accountability measures in place to maximize cost-savings and plan efficiency is essential in order for employers to control their healthcare cost. There are key value levers on both medical and pharmacy benefits to manage for optimal benefit based on clinical and financial factors resulting in improved patient experiences at a lower cost of care. Despite the use of utilizing prior authorization program and a variable copay program, two additional strategies are being increasingly explored in the market: carving-out specialty medications from the PBM and pharmacy benefits.
