The residency program is based out of three community-based specialty pharmacy locations that offer a variety of innovative clinical pharmacy services for the patients who are prescribed complex therapies. The pharmacists at these sites work closely with medical staff to provide optimal drug therapy for patients. The residency program is offered in partnership with the University of Illinois at Chicago Retzky College of Pharmacy where residents receive additional learning experiences in ambulatory care and teaching. Residency graduate can provide patient care for the members of their community, achieve their professional goals and become a leader within the profession.

CHRISTUS Specialty Pharmacy PGY1 Community-Based Residency Program, CHRISTUS Specialty Pharmacy, Tyler, TX

The CHRISTUS Specialty Pharmacy PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program is designed to develop residents’ knowledge of specialty pharmacy operations, enhance their ability to provide clinical services across specialty disease states, strengthen leadership and administrative skills, and foster engagement in scholarly activities. Residents train within a health-system specialty pharmacy and affiliated clinic settings, where specialty pharmacists serve as integrated members of interdisciplinary patient care teams.

Vanderbilt Health PGY1 Community-Based Residency, Vanderbilt University Medical Center Specialty Pharmacy, Nashville, TN

Our program consists of several block learning experiences including oncology, inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatoid arthritis, hepatology, neurology and practice management while also offering longitudinal learning in MTM, transitions of care, pharmacy dispensing and a community clinic medical home. Elective rotations include selections from: cystic fibrosis, rare disease, hematology, endocrine and multiple sclerosis. Additionally, the program weaves in clinical outcomes research, quality improvement training and teaching through presentations and student precepting over the course of the year with dedicated office and preparation time weekly.

Walgreens and Belmont University College of Pharmacy PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency, Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy, Nashville, TN

This postgraduate training opportunity for pharmacists enhances their skill set in the community and specialty pharmacy setting. The primary residency practice site is a community-based specialty pharmacy in Nashville, TN. The pharmacy teams service patients with many disease states including oncology, transplant, chronic inflammatory diseases, HIV and HCV. The pharmacists at these sites work closely with providers, patients, and the community to provide optimal drug therapy for patients. In addition, residents gain insights on management issues that can affect the implementation of patient care services in the community and specialty pharmacy setting.

PGY2 Specialty Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency, Northwell Health - VIVOHealth Pharmacy, New Hyde Park, NY

The purpose of the PGY2 Residency Program in Specialty Pharmacy Administration and Leadership at VIVOHealth Pharmacy is to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. This program provides residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. This accredited program will allow the resident to gain experience in the areas of ambulatory pharmacy leadership, clinical management, specialty pharmacy accreditation, operations, medication safety, pharmacy informatics, finance, contracting, marketing, and business development. Residents who successfully complete this program are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification.

University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program, University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy, Lexington, KY

The University of Kentucky PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program offers training opportunities at three practice sites: St. Matthews Community and Specialty Pharmacy in Louisville, KY; Kroger Pharmacy in Lexington, KY; and PrimaryPlus in Morehead, KY. The St. Matthews site provides a strong community and specialty pharmacy experience with opportunities to develop advanced patient care services, participate in pharmacy operations and practice advancement, and work closely with patients and other healthcare professionals. Across all three sites, residents gain experience providing direct patient care services, including immunizations, health and wellness services, medication therapy management, and other pharmacist-led clinical services.
