PGY1 Community-based Residency, Vanderbilt University Hospital Specialty Pharmacy, Nashville, TN

Vanderbilt launched this PGY1 Community-Based Residency, specializing in Specialty Pharmacy, in 2020. Vanderbilt Specialty Pharmacy is a leader among health system specialty pharmacies, with dual URAC and ACHC accreditation and is designated a URAC Rare Disease Center of Excellence. We have 140 employees in our department solely dedicated to delivering high quality patient care for patients receiving specialty medications. Our pharmacist and technicians work in the clinics where patients are receiving care to provide the most seamless patient care and provider support possible.

Carolinas Medical Center PGY1 Pharmacy, Atrium Health, Charlotte, NC

The Specialty Pharmacy PGY1 Pharmacy Residency within the Atrium Health Specialty Pharmacy Service is a 12-month, multi-site program designed to build upon the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education to develop the resident to fulfill the major functions of a Specialty Pharmacist. The emphasis of the residency is to train the pharmacist to support and manage specialty pharmacy clinical care and operations across the continuum of care. Residents will graduate with well-rounded skills in the specialty pharmacy, ambulatory, and inpatient settings, and will have the opportunity to pursue early commit to Atrium Health’s regional PGY2 programs. Required clinical learning experiences are completed in one-month blocks with many completed in outpatient clinics along specialty pharmacy service lines.

PGY1 Community-Based, WVU Medicine, Morgantown, WV

This residency provides extensive experience that fosters the development of a well-rounded leader in specialty pharmacy. The resident has the unique opportunity to become knowledgeable in drug management and education at an ACHC and URAC accredited Health System Specialty Pharmacy. There is an emphasis on rheumatology, inflammatory bowel disease, hyperlipidemia, multiple sclerosis, cystic fibrosis, hepatitis C, oncology, and more. Additional opportunity are available to rotate through various outpatient specialty clinics within WVU Medicine. This is coupled with longitudinal involvement in administration and leadership, academia, staffing responsibilities, and research. At the completion of the WVU Medicine-Allied Health Solutions Specialty Pharmacy residency, residents will be prepared to perform as a proficient pharmacist in various settings.

PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program, Shields Health Solutions, Stoughton, MA

The PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency is a one-year program that develops pharmacists to lead in specialty pharmacy practice. It prepares residents to deliver exceptional patient care, assume leadership roles, and refine their clinical and teaching skills. Focused on health system specialty pharmacy, the program offers hands-on experience in managing complex medication regimens, clinical pharmacy, operations, and teaching. It emphasizes continual improvement, professional responsibility, and ethical practice, preparing residents for diverse roles in patient care and healthcare collaboration. Residents emerge as confident, autonomous pharmacists, adept at enhancing medication adherence and promoting evidence-based care in ambulatory and specialty pharmacy settings. The program consists of learning experiences that are a hybrid of on-site and remote.
