Well…running a specialty pharmacy is not for the faint of heart. Technology (including, of course, AI) is years ahead of the law. With the continuing aging of Baby Boomers, consumer demand is increasing. Specialty pharmacies have downward pressures, in terms of cost cutting, exerted by third-party payors (“TPPs). Lastly, specialty pharmacies need to keep up with, or at least be aware of, (i) newly enacted federal and state laws and (ii) ever changing TPP guidelines. This program will “gaze into the crystal ball” and discuss the hot button issues facing specialty pharmacies in the next 12 months. Topics to be discussed will include (i) compliance with the DSCSA, (ii) utilizing AI in a way that avoids the law of unintended consequences, (iii) what to expect from the Trump II administration, (iv) efforts by the states to place restrictions on PBMs, (v) IRA impacts on DIR fees, (vi) successful implementation of collaborative practice agreements, (vii) avoiding problems with the DEA, and (viii) strategic alliances with referral sources that comply with federal and state law.
