Group Vice President, Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy

Garald A. Gleeson is Group Vice President of Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy, responsible for Walgreens U.S. Enterprise Specialty Business, which includes Central & Local Specialty business units, 340B program, provider and health system sales, payer marketing, and pharmaceutical quality. As part of his role, Gleeson also sits on the Boards of Option Care, Caremetx and the National Association of Specialty Pharmacy.

Gleeson has 20+ years of experience in the U.S. managed markets, global market access, retail trade and pharmaceutical marketing fields. He joined Walgreens in 2010 as Divisional VP of pharmaceutical development. From 2010-2016, as Divisional VP and then as Global VP, he focused on optimizing Walgreens relationships with pharma manufacturers, wholesalers, specialty distribution and overseeing the Walgreens
field-based manufacturer account management team. In addition, he had accountability for Walgreens payer marketing team tasked with building value propositions for Walgreens US retail, specialty & infusion assets.

Before joining Walgreens, Gleeson worked for Merck (formerly Schering-Plough), where he was an executive leader in the global market access business unit. He was responsible for leading the payer marketing strategy for all core U.S. product franchises and managing the global diversified products business unit. He was accountable for the management of Schering-Plough’s $2.4B global diversified products business.

Prior to his time at Schering-Plough, Gleeson was a senior consultant in the life sciences practice at KPMG Peat Marwick, in charge of strategic and financial planning initiatives for managed care organizations.

Gleeson received his bachelor’s degree from Villanova University and earned a MBA in healthcare administration from Temple University.
