Vice President & General Manager for U.S. Value and Access, Amgen
Mr. Barnes is the Vice President & General Manager for U.S. Value and Access. In this role, Mr. Barnes is responsible for all pricing, contracting, government price reporting, account management, value based contracting and the Payer / PBM / IDN strategies for all inline, peri-launch brand and biosimilar products across the $17B U.S. Amgen product portfolio. He is also responsible for the field reimbursement strategy and execution across all U.S. payers, ACOs, IPAs and IDNs. Additionally, Mr. Barnes is responsible to develop access and reimbursement strategies, including optimal approaches to pricing and contracting, payer engagement, and innovative payer partnerships with regard to brand products, product launches and bio-similars. Mr. Barnes is a member of Amgen’s Global Value, Access & Policy Leadership team and the U.S. Business Operations Leadership team.
Prior to this role, Mr. Barnes served as vice president, Specialty Pharmacy & Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) Strategy for the Global Value, Access & Policy team. In this role, he is responsible for working across Amgen’s U.S. business to develop access strategies, including optimal approaches to pricing and contracting, payer engagement, and innovative payer partnerships with regard to brand products, product launches and biosimilars.
Prior to joining Amgen, Barnes served as chief operating officer at Prime Therapeutics. Prior to Prime, Barnes was the division president of Aetna Rx Home Delivery and Aetna Specialty Pharmacy. He was also executive director of corporate logistics, warehousing and transportation at Quest Diagnostics and vice president & general manager at Medco Health Solutions.
Barnes is active on many industry advisory boards, including the National Association of Specialty Pharmacy (NASP), the largest national association dedicated to the interests of all individuals in the specialty pharmacy segment of healthcare. Additionally, he serves on the editorial board of Specialty Pharmacy Times.
Barnes received his bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University and Master of Business Administration, strategic management, and Master of Science, global supply chain management, from Indiana University, Kelley School of Business.
